How to prepare your property for the installation of a poly water tank

Preparing your property for the installation of a poly water tank is a crucial step to ensure a successful and hassle-free setup. By taking the time to properly prepare your property, you can maximise the efficiency and longevity of your tank. Poly Water Tanks guides you through the essential steps to prepare your property for your new tank. By following these guidelines, you can ensure a seamless installation process and enjoy the benefits of a reliable and efficient water storage solution from Poly Water Tanks.

Above Ground Tanks

Preparing your property for the installation of an above-ground slimline or rectangular under-deck water tank, or round water tank, is a crucial step to ensure a successful setup and long-term performance.  Firstly, it is important to select a suitable location for the tank, considering factors such as accessibility, proximity to downpipes and level ground. The ground should be cleared of any debris, rocks or plants.

Installing on Soil

Our water tanks should not be placed directly onto unprepared soil. Instead, we recommend:

  • Remove and/or form a base  75mm-100mm in depth where your tank will be placed, that is at least 100mm larger on all sides than the base of your water tank.
  • Mix sufficient crusher dust with cement powder to fill the void, creating a dry base.
  • Compact using a compactor or similar machinery
  • Ensure the surface is level before installing your new round water tank.

Concrete Slab

An engineer-designed concrete slab is Poly Water Tanks’ recommended base for our above ground water tanks. We recommend the slab to be:

  • At least 100mm thick
  • Have sufficient reinforcement mesh through the slab
  • Be smooth and level
  • Be at least 100mm wider on all sides than the base of your new round or slimline water tank.

Water Tanks Underground

Our Nugget Underground Tanks are the perfect water storage tank solution if you don’t have the space on your property, or want your tank out of sight. For best results, and to ensure the safety and longevity of your tank, we recommend consulting an engineer when installing your new water tank underground. However, we can provide installation guidelines to get you started.
